The sun was shining on the corner
Garden Exposition Seoul 2015
This garden is not about comfort women
but it’s capturing the expression of ‘a young twelve year
old girl from the past’ who’s looking at her sunny backyard.
The main structure of this garden is the 20-meter-long crossed wall filled with personal belongings and drawings from the girl’s past.
One of the garden from our ancestor ‘Soswaewon’ has a wall called ‘Aeyangdan’
and it means the ‘sun-loving wall’.
It means everyone can feel the sunlights, always looking forwardand has love for the right, righteous and bright world.
We cannot even begin to fathom the pain and sorrow of those girls
but we do hope that our future generations will keep taking care of this garden
and remember them.
The plant plans were specially thought through
and planted Korean naturalized flowers which butterflies love.
We hope butterflies all over the world will fly and visit this garden to spread the hope.
“We shall never forget the butterfly drawn by the girl.”
