Quiet Time:
DMZ Forbidden Garden

RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London
21~26. May. 2012
Gold Medal and President’s Award

In July, 2013, Korea’s DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) commemorates its 60th anniversary. Korea has its sorrow as the only divided country in the world, but at the same time, the treasure is inherited from this. For 60 years without human intervention, nearly pristine vegetation has been developed in DMZ. The unintentionally formed nature soothes the painful past as if everything were covered by a green blanket.
Water still runs down to the lower point over the threshold of the 38th parallel, ignoring the physical boundary born out of human conflict.
DMZ is the best textbook representing original meaning of garden, such as circle of life and nature’s power to resuscitate the scared landscape.
