Ae-yang-dan

The traditional Korean wall presented at the Korean Cultural Center New York is conceived as a single, living botanical vein that connects to the wall and ecology of Soswaewon, a historic garden in Korea.
From the heart of Manhattan, the wall symbolically extends across the Pacific Ocean to reach Soswaewon, forming what may be called the world’s longest ecological wall — a living connection spanning 11,000 kilometers.
Through the unique microclimate and natural vegetation found within Soswaewon, this work reflects the gentle seasonal rhythm of Korea’s southern province, Jeolla — where the transitions between spring and autumn are long and stable.
Reinterpreted in the global center of New York, the piece contemplates the distinctive value and enduring potential of the Korean garden, inviting reflection on how nature, climate, and culture intertwine across distance and time.
